
Braking systems manufacturer TMD Friction has announced plans to relocate production from Leverkusen, Germany, to Romania, in response to evolving market conditions. The move, scheduled for the second half of 2025, aims to increase competitiveness while maintaining high-quality braking solutions. The decision was made following an extensive assessment of alternatives and close consultation with social partners, writes The Brake Report.
According to the quoted source, this is a strategic relocation – the pilot unit in Leverkusen will close in the third quarter of 2025, and operations will move to Romania.
The company shows that it will still maintain its presence in Leverkusen “TMD Friction remains dedicated to providing premium braking solutions for the automotive industry.
The company continues to supply original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and the aftermarket through its well-known brands, including Textar, Mintex, Don, Pagid, Cobreq and Bendix,” according to the quoted source.
TMD Friction Romania owns a factory in Caransebeş, Caraş-Severin County, where it produces brake pads, built in 2007, after an investment of 10 million euros.
With a workforce of over 4,200 employees worldwide, TMD Friction operates in Europe, the Middle East, the US, Brazil, Mexico, China and Japan, ensuring a global footprint in the braking systems industry.
